Navigating the city...with unlimited metro rides

YAYAY!!!
My team arrived in Manhattan yesterday, Saturday. We met our project sponsor for New York Cares and toured our housing for the next three weeks. We will be living in old nun quarters that has been turned over to volunteer housing, on the side of a beautiful stone church, ST. Paul. Our address is 120 W.60th street if you care to google that! We are on the mid-west side...about 5 blocks from Central Park!! YAYAY. And NY Cares has given us unlimited metro cards as we will be using them to get to work and visit the various schools we will be working in.
SO our project is to help them pull off two of their big service events. The first one will be a service day doing beautification projects in area schools; painting murals and cleaning up schools. Some of my teammates will be working in the warehouse, some in the office and some sketching murals for volunteers to paint in on the day of the event. I will be on the mural sketching squad which is cool because we will travel via subway to schools in many of the 5 boroughs of nyc! We start work on Monday.
I will try to post pics soon but I can't find internet for long enough...

I will be coming home on November 17th. AmeriCorps graduation is Nov.13th.(mom, sis and auntie are coming out!!) I have mixed feelings about the end of this wonderful experience. I am happy and excited to some home though.

More updates to come.
LOVE LOVE LOVE and huge hugs for all you lovely people reading this!
