Today was our first work day at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania; encampment of the Continental Army during the American Revolution during the winter of 1777-78. That's just what it was: an encampment, it wasn't a battle spot or peace talk site...it was where soldiers spent their third winter in the war against Great Britain. BUT it was a pivotal time in the war. Some of the reasons why Valley Forge is so memorable: Many lives were lost during that season (around 1,700 from disease), the French decided to join our side during that time, renown generals were recruited to boost morale and instill order and strategy among the troops, to name a few reasons.
I found our orientation today to be so enriching and interesting. We were brought back to the vault where many old relics are classified and kept in just the right climate. We were led through their VERY informative visitor center with excellent exhibits and rare artifacts. Before today, I honestly could not tell you what year the American Revolution took place. Eeeek.
So my team and I will be here until October 3rd, doing historical restoration projects. Our housing is AWESOME. The best yet. We're in a 5 bedroom house, 2.5 bath with a nice, open living space. We are on site here at Valley Forge, the place is massive...some 3,500 acres of rolling meadows and clusters of forests.
Love and hugs!
