So today, we returned to the house we worked on yesterday.WOW! The place reeked of month old flood water, rotten eggs, and just musty death. I didn't realize 'stuff' like furniture, toys, clothes and papers could smell that bad once you saturate them with earth laden water! Geesh! Anyway these folks had their primary living quarters in their basement...which was fully submerged, along with a few spare inches on the first floor. And they are pack rats...so needless to say our work was cut out for us! But oh the difference we are able to see after each day! It is very satisfying seeing all of the progress! We met the homeowners and they are very overwhelmed but so very thankful and gracious for the help.
Today, I really enjoyed: (jokey, joke)
---pulling flood drenched insulation from the corners of the ceilings and having it drip down my arm and into my armpit!
-- squeging the floor and accidently splashing my bare legs with the muddy, watery, sludgy mixture living on the basement floor
---carrying buckets of heavy fireplace bricks up a flight of stairs
It was a good day, all joking aside. We worked with some great volunteers; some locals and some from Minnesota. Tomorrow is our day off! Very exciting. Relaxing and restful I hope.
Love and hugs!
Becca
