....for the small town paper/news station in Mason City, Iowa. Yippie!! So some reporters came to the house we've been working on the past few days and talked with a few of us while we were hydrating ourselves. You can check out the news video clip at: www.globegazette.com and look under the multimedia section and find the 'relief workers assist flood victims' title clip. I talk for like 40 seconds :)
Anyway, on to more important things :)...the work here is going well, we're busy everyday doing the same laborious work. This house that we've worked on in Mason City is a good 1.5 hour drive from Cedar Falls so we've been having our necessary dance parties in the van to keep us pumped up for the day. This would probably be a typical day:
7am-wake up, get ready, make lunch, have breakfast
8am-leave for worksite (last week it has been driving to mason city)
8-10am-drive to mason city, with stop at gas station to get treats and ice
10am-arrive and unload tools, brief on the days workload
10-1pm-work, haul, shovel, pound out, crow bar up, de-nail, squeegy, rip, drag, pull....
1-2:45pm- LUNCH break...either eat what you made or make an MRE (provided by Nachama) ...amazing good i think!
2:45-4pm-work, work, work...a little sluggish at first but then clearly we know we're on target when our gray shirts are a DARK, drenched gray by the end of the day.
4-4:30-clean up, put tools in trailor and head out!
4:30-6-drive, sleep, ipod it, read it up...
6-7:30-shower, lounge, laundry, hammock it up, call the peeps, nap it a bit..
7:30-any two team members are making us a delicious dinner...SLop time!
8-10-lounge time, movie time, interneting, whatever...
10-i'm pooped! I get cozy on my mattress amidst the expanse of floor and my team members belongings...its like a big slumber party in this multipurpose room.
...and then we get up and do it all over again. The days go by so quickly but they are so worthwhile. I like being a laborer...I have the nights off, I don't take stuff home with me, I put in 100% when i'm there and when i'm not..i'm not. It's a fun time.
we all enjoy eachtother.
Oh and yesterday, being my bday, my team was cute...we all wore party hats on the way to work and then when we got home someone made tacos and they made me a cake and all pitched in on a barnes and noble gift card and wonderful, sweet, home made card. then we all cozied up and watched Juno before beddy time. Good day!
anyway, send me an email if you want. i love and miss you all.
hugs hugs and more hugs!
