Here safe! Our 23 hour roadtrip and stop over in Knoxville, TN was made complete last night (Saturday) as we pulled into the middle school campus that will be our home for the next 8 weeks. Our room is packed full of other AmeriCorp women, teams from the Sacramento and Denver campus have been here for a few weeks already. We are entering the busiest week during the year--Spring Break for many colleges. So Camp Hope will swell to a little under a 1,000 people under one roof...majority of these people being alternative spring breakers. They have portable-mobile showers out back.
The camp is organized very well. There are references for things to do, places to go, food to eat. Volunteer opportunities, for our independent service hours. Multiple lounge/quite rooms and a TV room with free internet!! WOO. I was very happy to see this.
Today we went to the St. Bernard city sponsored St. Patricks Day parade. They threw cabbage, carrots, potatoes, and other food from their floats!! Along with the iconic mardi-gra beads and candy. :) The floats were pretty impressive for such a small town.
Our work week will be set for Tuesdays-Saturdays. But we still don't quite know what we will be doing, aside from building homes in Musicians Village. I guess we'll find out on Tuesday ;)
People are peering over my shoulder. I better let them use the computer now.
More later!
LOVE TO ALL
