Hello!
Currently, Soph and I are aboard Superfast Ferries enroute to Patras, Greece from Bari, Italy. It is a very nice boat. Kinda cruiseship-ish. Pool, discos, cafes, bars, sundecks, lounges. (I recommend this mode of transport to Greece!)
Anyhow lets see, Pompei Italy was great. We stayed in a hostel just 5 minute walk from the ruins of Pompei. It was HUGE. It was such a thriving metropolis back in AD 79 when the volcano smothered the city in 18 feet of ash and other material!!! We took a bus to Mt. Vesuvious and hiked another half mile or so to the top. Huge crater!! It was very neat to experience the ancient history this region had to offer. The italians have this very prestigious driving school and our bus driver was a graduate! OM Goodness!!! He would honk a bazillion times and then just step on the pedal around a hairpin turn up the mountain. Hilarious and a little nerve racking! haha.
WE met some travelors from Canada and had dinner with them and shared a few bottles of wine in the city piazza. Very fun. The night life is all about lounging and strolling, eating and drinking.
We keep finding bug bites all over...maybe because southern italy is very hot and humid this time of year.
We took a train to Bari yesterday and after walking around a bit...we splurged on a hotel room for 55 euro each. It was worth it! The a/c and continental breakfast oh yea!!
We are going to eat in the cafe in a bit (7:40pm local time) and then just take it easy on this fantastic 18 hour ferry ride.
Our mutual friend Jenny will be meeting us in Athens on the 26th. So excited!!! From there we will probably do a little island hopping adventure.
Much love!!!
BECCA
